The slideshow linked above, and the PDF linked below are the culmination of my graduate-level music theory course. In this self-guided but highly-structured class, I chose to explore music in pop-culture; specifically, music from movies and music from video-games. My research and planning quickly narrowed in on one unit of focus: Music of The Mandalorian.
The presentation above is a complete underscoring analysis of the first season of The Mandalorian as it relates to the end-credits theme composition, "The Mandalorian" by Ludwig Göransson. This presentation presents my findings of my underscoring analysis and identifies the distinct sections of "The Mandalorian," and their roles as leitmotifs for characters and places or otherwise in the underscoring of The Mandalorian show.
The document below is an in-depth analysis of "The Mandalorian," as composed by Göransson, and "The Mandalorian" as arranged by Robert Longfield for beginning band. Included in this document are an educational context, rationale, historical and socio-cultural situating, micro and macro analyses with multiple listening guides and pedagogical resources investigating Göransson's compositional process and Göransson and John William's inspirations, and a pedagogical plan outlining what this interdisciplinary-focused extra-curricular curriculum would look like.
